Huawei - New cellphone

By Felton Hill

The Chinese company, Huawei has produced a new smartphone, which the company has declared as to be the fastest on the market. The company was just recently declared the third place in wireless equipment. Recently it has released a huge product that has been announced as the “world’s fastest phone”.

Huawei announced the Ascend P2, its main device for the first half of 2013. It is a thin smartphone that features a 4.7-inch 720p HD display with a pixel density of 315 pixels per inch. A 1.5-GHz quad-core processor with 1 GB of RAM powers it. The phone comes with 16 GB of onboard storage and supports micro SD cards for extra storage such as music, photos and videos. The P2's camera rates 13 megapixels and includes a flash, backside illumination and a 1080p HD video capture.

During the presentation of the device, Huawei constantly compared it to the Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S III. The company made the message clear about saying that its device is superior to those of its competitors. Two specific features that I like more than the iPhone 5 is that the P2 has a gorilla glass 2 top screens for scratch resistance, and lower power consumption. The Ascend P2's screen is also sensitive enough to use with gloves on. One downside is that the screen is of a lower resolution than recent models from LG, HTC and Nokia, and can display 720p HD video rather than 1080p output.

Below are links and videos that tell more about the product:

  1. It's interesting how the phone looks to be a mix between an adroid and an Iphone. This is clever and I think they have displayed this product in this way so that they can atrract both tpypes of consumers. It is kind of funny that they have the technicians to develop a 1gb proccessor but can't display it in 1080p. It would also definitely be nice to have a real scratch proof screen. It seems as though all these new phones now days claim to have this same scratch resistant feature but clearly lack it lol. Hopefully this phone will make it's way to the states it sounds interesting.

  2. Another inventive idea for a better cellphone and at first look its amazing. Giving it the title "Worlds fastest phone" it has to be a one of a kind. I did like that you are able to scroll with a glove on though that will definitely put them ahead of other cellphones. The features including the the 1080 HD video capture and long battery life will most definitely bring an audience & bring high demand. Now that we see how outstanding this phone is and what it does my only question is what will be the market price be and how is the insurance on the phone as well. Many times companies come out with new and improved phones but like many other electronics there will always be defects seen and unseen. I just hope that the possibility of faults in this phone are lessened compared to other phones.

  3. Cell phones are becoming more advanced by the day. Making the new Huawei similar to the I phone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S III was a very good idea because those phones are a hot commodity. Smartphones raise the bar with access to the Internet, email and business applications in a small hand held device. Making the Hauwei with two screens so the phone is scratch resistant. I personlly have the I phone 5 and my battery is great so I not sure if the battery life of the Hauwei can get any better than the I phone 5.

  4. This article was very interesting, but it really was no surprise to me that the Chinese were able to create a cell phones that is so unique. I feel that no matter how creative Apple and Samsung may get with there cell phones, I feel that we will always take the back seat role to the Chinese and Japanese, since they are the creators of most these amazing technologies and their work will only continue to improve as time goes on.

  5. This is interesting to me because each year I tell myself, " What else can they do?" I am very impressed with the phone market and the technology they all have. The competition between each phone company is very stiff and intense but I believe the countries in Asia will always trump American owned companies based off how more advanced their technology is.

  6. Finally, a phone that can really challenge both the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy! However, why are some of the features iPhone-esque? (i.e. the home screen). And I'm curious of how much faster it is than the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 in reality, since those phones are pretty fast. Also, I want to know if it will lag after it has been used/pictures have been taken/etc.

  7. I am curious to find out if there was no iPhone, what would cell phones look like today? The iPhone has penetrated the market and caused competitors to think so fast they are ignoring their own creativity. For example, on this Ascend P2, the contacts app design looks exactly like the iPhone contact app design. There is no reason why they cannot create their own design, or color for that matter. I challenge these companies to not just compete in the current market, but create a market.

  8. The smart phone market in my mind is already overcrowed and this phone isn't going to help the case. I find it more so interesting that every phone that comes out feels the need to compare itself to the iphone than to its own capabilities. I'm looking forward to see where this phone can go. However, I am skeptical of phones being manaufactured and handled by the Chinese as I feel they cut a lot of corners to save money. So, i'm interested to see if the phone will catch on in America.

  9. Interesting Post! I’m very curious to see how this “New Phone” going to be better than IPhones and Galaxy. The two phone companies running the phone market at every level and it’s going to be very interesting to see what strategy the new phone going to use to overpower IPhones and Galaxy.

  10. With all of their statements about how this will be the fastest smartphone, and how it is better than the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S III, I want to know the price point of this phone. With the Gorilla Glass as it's top coat for the screens, it will probably cost the same, if not more, to make than the iPhone or Galaxy. If they want to beat the proven behemoths in the smartphone space, they'll likely do it via pricing, but I highly doubt that they'll be able to lower the price point to a level that will allow them to compete with the iPhone or Galaxy based on number of units sold. There are just too many established companies for this to end well for them.

  11. Wow, very interesting. I must say that this phone might give the iPhone a run for its money. I am currently an iPhone user and this phone definitely has my attention. It looks nice and sleek, and the fact that it's the world's fastest smartphone does not hurt. I will say however, that my interest declined when I heard in the video that it runs on Droid software. Prior to me purchasing my iPhone, I had a Droid cellular device and was not impressed when I compared it to the iPhone software. Since I highly doubt Apple would give their software to this phone, I believe Droid is going to need to step their game up to compete when the phone hits the open market.

  12. What I find most interesting about this post and his phone in general is that Steve Jobs truly paved the way for all phones nowadays. From touch screens to applications, Apple is killing the competition. It is going to be difficult for this phone to really break barriers because this is not even a really established brand worldwide. For people to truly invest in such a phone, they are going to have to invest in a few American spokespersons.
