Blackberry Z10 V Apple Phone 5

BY: Shelton Hamilton

When it comes to technology, every day we are observing new creations to take the place of old ones. There has always been and will always be competition between which creations are the best. For the last seven years, Apple INC., has separated itself from others and has moved above all companies in taking over the computer/ electronic field. Therefore, every minute companies’ are constantly looking for new gadgets and computers to overtake Apple’s dominance. Blackberry is one of many companies that have released new technologies to compete with Apple. The Blackberry Z10, is the latest creation by Blackberry and it will greatly compete with Apple’s iPhone 5. Though it has not been released in the U.S., many other countries are really high on this new creation. With new technology being created and added to make this smartphone even smarter than the iPhone 5, will the Blackberry Z10 live up to the hype and out sell Apple’s iphone5?
The Z10 is not only a single device against the iPhone 5, but the entire series. The Z10’s new operating system was made in a Canadian firm and will defeat the iPhone and its iOS in several key areas. The Z10 wins the hardware battle with the iPhone since it is a powerful and strong machine with high quality specs and other features. Its great build quality is like no other, and with software that is providing a stunningly smoother experience for users, this piece just might be hard to pass up on. The Z10 and iPhone are tied in the handsets field since both handsets are very good. However, when it comes to the specs outlook, the BlackBerry Z10 is victorious again. It has a large 4.2-inch display with 768 x 1280 pixels at 355p pixel density. The processor inside the device is a 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon, and it is supported by an Adreno 225 graphical processor and 2GB of RAM. The device comes only in 16GB model with the facility for data storage expansion through a microSD slot. Cameras of the device include an 8MP rear and 2MP front ones. On the other end, the iPhone 5 has a 4-inch Retina display, and under the cover, it features a 1.2GHz A6 dual core processor, 1GB of RAM and a PowerVR SGX 543MP3 graphical processor. This is no match whatsoever to the Z10. The one thing that does give the iPhone an advantage is that it is available in three memory versions 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB.
Several people are anxious to see how this greatly compacted piece will holdup. “The Blackberry Z10 definitely puts in a solid performance, leading to a surprisingly close contest. It matches the iPhone 5 for display and camera and even tops it for battery life, memory and connectivity,” says a 3G.co.uk.writer. Many analysts feel that the iPhone 5 is still a winner over the Z10 just because its build quality is better. Even though this may be true others feel that the Z10 is better because it is more advance in one very key component, which is its ability to be repaired. At the end of the day, both of these gadgets will be great money makers for Blackberry and Apple, but only time will tell if the Z10will be able to dethrone iPhone 5 as America’s hottest phone.

  1. There seem to be several phones coming out that have the capability of competing with the iPhone. I thought the iPhone was the best option available but now I see its competitors have caught up. I am interested to see how the Blackberry Z10 holds up with iPhone in sales. There seem to be a few areas that the Z10 is better in than iPhone.

  2. Will Iphone be over outbeated? I think the answer is yes, but definitely not anytime soon. As a Marketing major, I am more concerned about the new Marketing Direction the Blackberry will go under the creative of Alicia Keys.

  4. In terms of popularity, consistency and technological innovation, Iphone wins. Blackberry, reached its peak and didn't conform to the changing demand, desire and consumer base. The Blackberry Z10 represents the epitome of speculation and wishful thinking. It may attract new users, but its brand and marketability have drastically diminished. Blackberry's technological rise and decline is similar to that of an inconsistent athlete. At the end of day, Blackberry has great moments, but fail to offer consistent products for customers. If Iphone and Samsung represent, kobe and Lebron. Blackberry is like Jr Smith.

  5. I personally believe that IPhone is beginning to reach its peak. When IPhone originated, the level of innovation possessed by the Apple company was insurmountable in comparison to other brands. However, the latest versions of IPhone have not been as groundbreaking and innovative as before. The company really should begin to renew the push for creative additions to their products.

  6. I agree with Martavius' comment where he stated that he believes that IPhone is reaching its peak. I currently have the IPhone 4 and its almost time for my upgrade, one in which I will not be using towards another IPhone product. To be honest there arent too many things that the IPhone can do that are enabling it to keep up with its competitors at Blackberry and Samsung.

  7. I agree with parry 100%. Although the Blackberry Z10 looks like a remarkable phone, the blackberry brand itself has struggled in the past when it comes to consistency. When
I search for a phone I will go for the popular phone from a consistent brand, not a popular phone from an inconsistend brand. Thats why I feel Like the iphone will continue to sale well because the Apple product itself is very dependable and consistent to its buyer.

  8. I agree with Darrell, the iPhone will one day be out beat but this product is not the one to do it. While it may do good in sales, Apple's strong customer loyalty will be the reason why it won't be able to match the IPhone.

  9. Even with Blackberry hiring a new marketing team, I do not believe they have fixed their marketing and positioning problems. If you think about it, the Blackberry Z10 has just launched in the States; have you seen much advertising for the Z10? No, in our everyday lives we have not seen Blackberry to the extent we see Samsung (Droid-Does) or Apple, for example. I have attached a video link below explaining some of the marketing mistakes made by Blackberry. One I find particularly true and applicable is Blackberry did not understand or respect who their customers were-Corporations.

  10. This is a pretty interesting article. I have no clue who will lead the cellular industry in the future. This post def. makes me think about it.

  11. Blackberry vs. Apple
At this point in history, Apple has done something that is both remarkable and difficult to combat. They have created a product that and in so doing, created a kind of customer loyalty that prevents its competitors from legitimately dethroning the Apple empire, even as the competitors may sometimes introduce products that on paper have better technological specifications and other features that would seem to be improvements upon the foundation that Apple has set. Unfortunately for these competitors, in this case for Blackberry, try as they might they cannot undo the work that Apple has done to position its products in the hearts and minds of "iConsumers" across the globe.

  12. Google is an incredibly innovative company. I feel like Google will run the industry in the future by delivering consumers some unprecedented value. I'm not sure what it will be, but I just know they have a history of changing the game.

  13. The people in this thread have said some great things already. I agree with Perry that the Blackberry brand has lost marketability and gone past its peak. And I agree with Martavius that the iPhone is beginning to reach its peak.

But, I believe that Apple will find a way to come out on top. The iPod has been on top for over a decade now and no competitor seems to be coming close. I think Apple will find a way to continue its dominance even without the late Steve Jobs.

Now, when it comes to the Blackberry Z10, nothing will make this phone better than the iPhone or even the Galaxy S3. As an exowner of a Blackberry Torch, I can accurately say that Blackberry is stuck in the past. They will always be one step behind the competition.

In addition, a major selling point of Apple and Android products are their app markets. The Blackberry cannot hope to have the same 3rd party support that the two major players own. The money just isn't there. So no matter how advanced the technology that goes into the phone gets, if the support isn't there, the Z10 will just never be able to compete.

  14. Blackberry has tried in the past to introduce a touchscreen phone, with unimpressive results. One of the main aspects that have kept people buying blackberries is the physical keys, which many older/more conventional people find comforting, as they do not want to conform to the new standards of technology. While there are some specifications on the Z10 that seem to make it better than the iPhone 5, Apple already has the client base, and that will be hard to take away from them, or a competitor like Samsung, unless the Z10 is markedly better. To most people, the average users of cell phones, the differences between the two phones are inconsequential. They will be more concerned with the reputation of the brands. Blackberry is generally seen as an old person's phone, and I don't see this phone changing that much.
