GS4 vs Iphone5

BY :Joshua Nyarko

In class, we have discussed the top two Smartphone platforms: Apple and Android. We learned the Android market is growing while Apple’s sales are slowing. Below are 10 reasons why the Galaxy S4 is better than the iPhone 5. Also, there is a chart showing Apple’s stock plunge over the last six months. This has been largely attributed to a failure to meet investor expectations and a drop in expected growth. How do you think Apple can recover market value by continuing to be innovative and increase growth expectations?

1) The Galaxy S 4 is faster than the iPhone 5.
Samsung's Galaxy S 4 has a quad-core processor compared the the iPhone 5's dual core processor. The Galaxy S 4 is almost two times faster than the iPhone 5.

2) The Galaxy S 4's screen is bigger.
The Galaxy S 4's screen measures a whopping 5-inches. That's a full inch more screen real estate than the Phone 5. A bigger screen means more apps on one page, more space for videos, and higher quality.

3) The Galaxy S 4 has better camera software.
Software aside, the Galaxy S 4 packs a whopping 13 megapixel camera, compared to the iPhone 5's eight megapixel camera. Pictures stand out with features like, photo blur, which allows you to erase people or things from a photo and Share Shot, which lets you sync your friends' Galaxy S phones together to share photos.

4) The Galaxy S 4 is more versatile.
The Galaxy S 4 has the latest version of Android, which by nature is a more customizable operating system than Apple's iOS. But besides making phone calls and downloading apps, the Galaxy S 4 can be used as a remote for your compatible Samsung TV. Forbes Haydn Shaughnessy of Forbes points out, "on the S4 microsite Samsung says the phone 'suggests different programs based on your preferences, provides program schedules, and does the channel surfing for you. The Samsung GALAXY S4 even allows you to remotely control the TV or setup boxes.'"

5) The Galaxy S 4 is available on all major carriers including T-Mobile.
The iPhone has yet to make its debut on T-Mobile, leaving some customers out in the dark.

6) The Galaxy S 4 has a sharper screen.
The iPhone 5's Retina Display pushes out an astounding 1136x640-pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch.
But, Samsung used an HD Super AMOLED screen and beefed up the resolution on the Galaxy S 4 to a impressive 1920x1080 at 441 pixels per inch.

7) Google Now is light-years better than Siri.
This is an Android feature but is still counts as a reason the Galaxy S 4 is better that the iPhone 5. Google Now is a personal assistant that comes included with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It uses all the information available in your smartphone to provide you with relevant information. For example, your phone knows the route you take home and if there is traffic it will prompt you to go a faster way. If you're about to take a flight, Google Now prompts you to check in and even gives you weather in the destination city.

8) The Galaxy S 4 has more memory contributing to the overall quickness of the phone.
The Galaxy S 4 is packed with 2 GB of RAM. That means you can run more apps at once, have more tabs open in your browser, and it just contributes to the overall quickness of the smartphone. The iPhone 5 runs on half of that, only using 1 GB.

9) The Galaxy S 4 has a removable battery!
A removable battery means that when your phone is running low you don't have to stay tethered to a plug. Samsung even sells an extra battery kit allowing you to get some extra juice in a hurry.

10) Users can expand the Galaxy S 4's storage.
If you don't want to shell out the extra money for a 64 GB Galaxy S 4, you can expand the smaller sizes (16GB and 32GB) with a MicroSD card. You can also save data to the MicroSD instead of your actual phone's memory.

  1. I seriously think that the iphone is the best phone in the market. However, apple has all these rules and restrictions keeping users from being able to use the iphone to its fullest potential. Now a jailbroken iphone is soooo legit if you know what your doing. With a jailbroken Iphone users are not limited to anything: movies, tv-shows, apps, games, programs, etc. and its legal. GS4 is huge almost like a tablet and always playing catch up with apple. And with the size of that phone they better be able to put more into the phone than apple did with all that extra space.

I cant keep up and i cant afford to keep up either. & I wish i had unlimited data smh they are really milking us as consumers with these data plans and 4,5,& $600 phones coming out every 5 months smh. But I would like to see the iphone go to t-mobile soon so i how Daniel White's sources are correct.

  4. I do not like huge phones so even if it is faster i would still prefer my iphone. And while it may seem to be faster in the video the galaxy phones usually lag and freeze. The only thing that is better than the iphone on the gs4 is the camera and the resolution but im sure the iphone 6 will top this when it arrives. Ill never switch to any other phone. Good post.

  5. Galaxy S3 & S4 are great phones. The iphone has it's competitive advantage because of the compatability factor and user friendly connection between all their devices. I still will remain an iphone user.

  6. i really feel like a big reason why people get things by apple is because of its Name, the galaxy does do alot of things that the iphone does not do. Some people are hipped to the things that the iphone does not do.

  7. I feel that Apple has proven itself as such a reliable source for electronics for so long, that no matter how good the Samsung Galaxy may be people will continue to get the iPhone 5 just because its an Apple product. Maybe some of these other companies can put together more and more products, to gain customers trust; therefore, their sales will maybe reach the height of Apple's.

  8. I used to think iphone 5 was the best phone available until I saw the comparison to the Galaxy S4. It seems to me that Android is more popular than iphone because it is faster and has greater features. I am an iphone user but this article has made me reevaluate and do more research on the Galaxy S4

  9. Like many Iphone users, I feel like i will always have a preference for iPhone just because its what i'm accustomed too. However, I feel that Apple as a company needs to rely less on the "Apple Fanbase" that they have obtained. In order to grow and reach new markets, Apple is going to have to allow more freedom with its devices for both users and programmers.

  10. It is hard for many users of smart phones to determine whether the Galaxy S4 or the iphone 5 is the superior model. However, one thing is certain when analyzing the usefulness of the two devices. It is clear that the Android operating system has the superior value in terms of providing consumers with products that they desire due to the influence of Google. With the amount of research and data that is gathered by this company, consumers can seek to have a personally tailored experience when using Android based devices.

  11. I am a Google fan but I recently purchased a iPhone 5. I do not see any real difference besides the way the apple and Android platforms are different. The Apple has many good things about it but it doesnt have a edge as many is saying. The new samsung galaxy s4 looks like its going to be a cool phone. I think that with all the patent disputes and phone technology disputes in general, We as the consumer would never be able to get the ideal phone that we want.

  12. The debate for the best phone will always be a battle of technological specs, speculation and personal preference. IPhone has topped the market with siri, sleek designs and technological innovation. Samsung is rapidly consuming the ounce impenetrable market of iPhone users. Samsung and IPhone embody the beauty of technology, innovation and creativity. As iPhone and Samsung battle to create the best phone, they will continue to offer the best technological service for customers.

  13. Apple is just a product that I trust and am comfortable with. because of my feelings towards Apple, I feel as if I will always pick and iphone over an Android.

  14. I believe that while it is true that the Galaxy series of phones are better at a lot of tasks (customization, screen size, etc) the iphone will ultimately remain the top contender in the smartphone market because Apple has done an amazing job at creating a sense of ubiquity with their products. Their itunes ecosystem has hundreds of millions of users who are tied to Apple's products and services. Because the company has been able to offer so many streamlined products AND services while making both their hardware and software aesthetically pleasing, people are now in a sense, forced, to stick with Apple. It is not the fact that the iphone does or does not do certain tasks, it is the fact that what it does do, it makes simple and intuitive. The average smartphone user is not going to want to delve into ten menu screens to customize every homepage on their phone to include this widget and that picture. The iphone does a great job at simplifying and beautifying their OS so it appeals to the masses outside of the technologically literate.

  15. I am a huge google fan, and currently own the Galaxy S3. One of the reasons I've never switched to the iphone is the marketing scheme I feel they are rolling out. They change a about two features to their next phone, whereas Google and the galaxy make sure they change as much as they can. Also I feel that Google is a lot more innovate with the changes they make in the phones. For instant, look at the GS3. It has new camera options, accessibility options, and a lot more. I will definitely stick with google and upgrade to the GS4!

  16. I am currently an apple user and do not see myself leaving the company in the near future, but I do like the recent competition that apple is receiving from other companies. I also agree that apple is able to retain alot of old customers and attract new customers solely of it reputation and name. BUt with Companies like google become more and more prevalent in many peoples every day life, I believe that apple will have to quickly come up with a new product to remain a fan favorite.

  17. I agree that the S4 is better than the iPhone 5, but the name Apple is generally what keeps consumers coming in. The reputation of the company really has an effect on how people decide what to buy. The generic acetaminophen is essentially the same as the name brands like Tylenol, but people still buy Tylenol because the reputation of the brand is stronger than the generic's.

Also, another reason that people tend to like the iPhone is because they already have an iMac or Macbook. They like how all of their devices can talk to one another and seamlessly sync and back themselves up on each other and the cloud. It is very convenient, and keeps people coming back.

Finally, people are generally lazy, so the very simple operating system and display functions of the iPhone is perfect for them. The S4 and other Android phones have much more adaptable functions, but many users do not need, nor want, such functions.

  18. Thanks for sharing this post I also share with you some tip hope you like. I have the exact same issue on my iPod Touch 1st generation. Only difference is the perfectly round spot is in a different position on the screen. I also thought I had looked after mine... perhaps there is a manufacturing defect?
